| Note: This site was featured a while back and is brought back to the front because the authors have since added other similar 'ferrets', all of them worth using. WebFerret has to be the neatest and fastest way ever to search the Net. Fast to download, easy to install and even easier to use. A check of 'Compunews' produced 64 hits, all relevant, in less than a minute! Running your mouse over each 'hit' gives you a summary of what you can expect to find at that URL. Double-click on the URL and you're there. You call Ferret from the Start Menu, enter your search term and off you go. A 'must' for every serious surfer |

The Pocket Internet As I do not publish a 'regular' newsletter anymore (only special issues) I thought the least I could do was to lead you to what I believe is one of the best e-zine on the Net. It is new, it is fresh, it is.... well, I suggest you go see for yourself. I think you'll love it.
World Kids Network This is an incredible site! Now, kids of all ages from around the world can justly claim they have a place to go which competes with the very best of adults' sites. The quality and professionalism demonstrated throughout the entire site rates a top ten! Children from 2 years old to 95 years young will feel right at home here! A must visit site.

Great New Day Planner! Looking for a great new Day Planner with multi features, easy to install and easy on the pocketbook? Here it is. The Visual Day Planner 5.0 for Windows 95 provides a fast way to schedule appointments, and display monthly or weekly listings at a glance. You easily enter data simply by clicking on a date and typing. You also have control over the font, color, and strike-through of completed tasks. You can even set your calendar as Windows wallpaper. This application has won several awards from trade magazines such as PC Mag, Windows Mag and more. For users of Windows 3x, there is a similar application available. I have used the program for a short while and like its many features. Highly recommended.
The Safety Patrol Here is one site any parent with young children should, not only bookmark, but make their 'Homepage'. It includes one of the most comprehensive listing of sites suitable for children I have ever come across. I mean.... it is awesome. This new feature is but one of so many other outstanding pages of Bruce's Web Page Help (see below).

Silicon Valley Web Directory This is a hierarchical index and directory with its own search engine to over 5,500 world wide websites about Silicon Valley, the computer industry, and the San Francisco Bay Area. This is a non-commercial directory that features primarily non-commercial home page links. Highly recommended!
Eureka! Internet Search Engine Eureka! is a simple and easy to use internet search engine that still provides all of the powerful and complex features of all the major search engines on the web. It is the ideal starting place for the beginner and the final stop for the expert. Eureka! also provides an easy interface to add your URL address to all of the major search engines on the internet. You can submit your site to the engines where 99% of all searches take place in a simple, but effective results oriented fashion.
Not only do you get a terrific free service in Eureka!, but you also get some of the best advise, free or otherwise, on how to search the internet and to promote your website. Bottom line: If you haven't looked with Eureka!, you haven't looked at all.

The pro-surfers will love this application! A web spider that does it all and, in style. Put simply.... you can retrieve an entire site (or just specific files) or create an exact mirror of any web site, anywhere on the Internet. You can even download just the filenames of a web site if you so wish. I use this latter function to 'check' the currency of all the hundreds of URL's contained in Omega. See Compuflash 11 Sep 96 for more details.
The HTML Goodies Domain Home Page Although I featured that page some months ago, I thought it appropriate to feature it again, if only for the benefit of those new subscribers who might not otherwise find out about it. It is a gem! If you are into HTML authoring at all, you should visit it. Loaded with good tips!
The Last Lunar Eclipse.. The last total lunar eclipse for North Americans until the year 2000 takes place on Thursday night, September 26th. For a complete dossier on the subject, read the current issue of Sky Online Magazine, your Astronomy source on the World Wide Web. Besides the info on the eclipse, this issue is loaded with interesting articles including Tips for Backyard Astronomers, a good article on the Russian Space Station Mir,
and tons of good astronomy-related links.

Here is one page worth a visit by anyone attempting to write his/her first homepage. While devoid of any time-delaying fancy doodads, it loads fast, contains much useable information and links and includes several features which should be common to any well-designed page. For example, it gives the visiting surfer a choice of navigation: normal or map.

If you are worried about picking up a virus on the Net this little app might help. Called ViruSafe WEB, it becomes part of your browser and will first scan any file you select for downloading. It works on executables, ZIP files and other types of files. Only when the scan is completed will you be prompted to save the desired file. This could slow down your downloads a little but then, if you are concerned about virus'....

Another one of those where you can send a nice present to friends and loved ones, all for free! How can one resit? And this one has hilarious presents. Loading is fairly fast, considering all the graphics and delivery is even faster.

MidiMaster is a Windows95 app. Plays Midi, WAV and RMI's. You can also use it to organize your Midi files. It has one feature I like very much:whenever you play long lists of Midi files, you can glance at and control what is playing by glancing at a tiny control bar sitting wherever you choose. A joy to use.

My Yahoo Once in a blue moon you come across a site that is so hot, so new, so good that you have to tell the world about it and share the good news. What is 'My Yahoo'? I could easily write ten pages about it but why should I because, after loggin on their page, they take you on a five-page conducted tour that explains it much better than I could. Use it for two days and you'll wonder how you ever operated before!

The good folks at PKWare now make it even easier than ever to obtain their products.

This is a program that will save your favorite keywords and also your URLs, check them periodically, and send you email to tell you whether they have been updated. Your personal agent on the Web.
Explore the world with the best!

Beam yourself into space. One of the most `well put together' page I have seen in a long while. Superb graphics. The author is a Computer Science major... two years away from graduation. I would love to see what he'll come up with then!
Loads of nice graphics. Auto-music. Animated GIF's
If you got this superb news provider when I first mentioned it weeks ago, now's the time to get the upgrade. Simply fantastic improvements on an already top of the line product. Although the file is huge (almost 2 Megs) it loaded very fast and is very easy to install. A winner!
PowerLinks
PowerLinks is a database of Internet links. The downloaded file is quite large (>2Meg) but worth the wait. Once installed in its own directory, you load the HTM file and off you go. Thousands of links and extremely easy to use. This is a Canadian application and the registration fee is quite reasonable. One caveat: it is quite easy to spend an hour trying the various links!
